Feb 2016. Oil on canvas. 22 x 30cm.

I used to like plein air painting and that was my major practice and learning opportunity in these 2 years. But I had decided to give up plein air for a while. The focus for 2016 would be my basic sketching skill. I hope the fundamental training could bring to a further spot in the long run.

Giving up plein air was painful for me. I loved it so much and had gotten a lot of aspiration from it.

This day, I was invited by a painting friend to do a short session plein air at my working area. I took the chance to have a exceptional case.

This one was not easy for me. Because I had been looking at a lot of master pieces and decided to change my past skills for better painting. I spent time hesitating before I started my first stroke.

Today we were lucky we had sunshine. Sunlight was our best friend because it would cast light, shadow on all objects and create dynamic color variations. It had been raining for weeks despite it was winter.

Finally I completed this smaller pieces in 2 hours. Much longer than usual considering that it was such a small pieces. It was not 100% up to my expectation. But I still loved this one which captured the sunshine.
