January 25, 2015. Oil on Canvas. 35 x 50cm
I joined a plein air group of fellow painters on some sunday mornings. That day we decided to paint at Shek O.
I drove while most friends went by public transportation. That day was the Standard Marathron Running Competition. The Eastern Highway was blocked. Yet I was very stupid I never checked news before I went anywhere. At the end, I was 2 hours late when I arrived.
Someone started to pack and someone was doing their finishing touch. I had 50 mins left. Deducting the time for setting up and packing there would be like 25 mins. I struggled whether I should start or not.
At last i decided to try my best.
The result was very unexpected. The wave was very big that winter day. Making a loud noise. And it seemed to me the wave would crash to us anytime next minute. I felt very excited. I painted very fast and the colour I used was very accurate. The brush stroke was very certain, powerful and dynamic. I felt very pleased. And I discovered a small secret: I had the ability to paint if I didn’t think too much.
Friends were shocked to see my work especially they saw it was done within so little time.
This was a memorable incident and a significant day for me.
