May 29, 2016. Oil on canvas. 18cm x 25cm. In Taipei Metro Station.
I had a free day in Taipei. I invited my Taiwan friend to go painting with me. He was so nice to choose a place with shelter.
Yet this day. In May. The temperature was unbelievable 36*C. We wished to settle down but finally gave up.
His back up plan was to bring me to the underground shopping street in a big metro station called 忠孝復興捷運站 which was air conditioned.
Despite the temperature became more human, the plein air painting was very challenging.
The station had a weird cool green and grey colour for everything – tile floor, ceiling, pillars, walls.
Also the people were moving around and difficult to record.
But this fresh experience was very stimulating too. And finally I made it. This was one of my favourite little painting.

I had experienced working in a busy traffic area in HK. Normally it was tragically bad. First of all people were too curious to remember the proper manner. Secondly painters could barely finish the work because there was a lot of authorities or entities discouraged you to continue. It was rare to me that no one came to disturb me, and no shops or Metro staff expelled me. I felt that Taiwan was more a mature community for arts and culture for sure.
